St Mary the Virgin is a Church of England Voluntary-aided school, which was founded in Hartfield in 1842.

Hartfield is a pretty village on the edge of the Ashdown Forest in East Sussex. AA Milne, the creator of Pooh Bear and Christopher Robin and their friends was a former resident of the village and Pooh Sticks Bridge and A Hundred Acre Wood are only a short distance away. Although it is situated in this beautiful rural area it is just 10 minutes from both Edenbridge and Crowborough and only a little further from East Grinstead and Tunbridge Wells.

The school nestles beside the church off the village High Street. It is reached down a private road and has a large parking area. The relationship between the church and school is a close one that we are extremely proud of. The children are encouraged to take an active role within the services, not only in the schools weekly visit, but also in the special celebration Services which are held during the year and the monthly Kidz Praise and Café Church.

The school is a single storey building with 6 classrooms, a multipurpose hall, a library, a Special Needs and music room and a kitchen. The reception classroom has its own toilets and cloakroom area. Outside the grounds are landscaped and include an outside teaching area, hard and soft surface play areas, a trim trail and there is a wide range of play equipment.

The school grounds are fenced and gates are kept locked during the school day to ensure a safe environment for both our children and staff.
